What Are Pool Features?
Have you ever wondered how much more your pool can be? Whether you are looking to inject a sense of play with high-speed slides, create a tranquil atmosphere with the melodic sound of waterfalls, or implement a sophisticated lounging area on shallow sun shelves, pool features are the key to elevating your outdoor experience. Even the most utilitarian pool can be transformed into an elegant oasis with a few well-placed sheer descents.
In this article, I’ll be taking you through our personal favorite pool accessories, all the way from full construction/renovation projects to store-bought products! Read on to learn more about all the ways you can customize your Chameleon Pool!
1. Waterfalls
While a custom waterfall is a premium pool feature that can significantly increase initial construction or renovation costs, the long-term value it adds to your outdoor living space is often unmatched. Beyond the striking visual “wow factor,” a waterfall serves as a natural sound machine, utilizing a steady rhythmic flow to mask neighborhood noise and create a private, tranquil sanctuary. Additionally, the constant movement of the water helps improve circulation and aeration, which can assist in keeping the pool water cooler and clearer during the peak of summer. When you factor in the therapeutic benefits of a backyard retreat and the boost to your property’s resale appeal, this high-end feature quickly transitions from a luxury splurge to a worthwhile upgrade for any homeowner. And, if the price is too high or the natural look isn’t the way you want to go, there are plenty of other options to inject the white noise effect of falling water into your project.
2. Sun Shelves
Also referred to as Tanning Ledges, Sun Shelves are becoming increasingly popular among families with young kids, or older families that prefer to relax and want a spot to enjoy the sun in the water. A perfect place for in-pool seating or bubbler fountains, we build sun shelves with anywhere from 8″ to 14″ of water depth, depending on your preference. Sun shelves come in all shapes and sizes, from small splash pads to the centerpiece of the pool! The only limits are the space in your pool and the size of your imagination!
3. Water Bowls, Laminar Jets, and Sheer Descents
If you’re looking to add a touch of flair, specialized water features like water bowls, laminar jets, and/or sheer descents are the way to go. Water bowls act as elegant focal points, combining sculptural beauty with a little splash. If you prefer a more dramatic, glass-like effect, laminar jets shoot clear, arched streams of water from the pool deck into the pool. Be sure to look into adding integrated LED lights for a stunning nighttime display! Complementing these are sheer descents, which produce a seamless, glass-like curtain of water that drops straight down from a raised wall. These features function as both a stunning visual display and a white noise generator, making them the perfect touch of elegance and tranquility to any backyard.

4. Raised Spas
I know, I know. “The pool company is trying to upsell me on a spa!” But trust me, the price is worth it, whether you host events or just use it yourself. Besides, we always tell customers the same thing: you can only build this pool one time. Adding a spa retroactively is a costly process that can involve intense renovation work, so if you think you want one later, consider your options now.
Our spas are completely custom, but generally we split them into two categories: flush spas and raised spas. Flush spas can be inside or outside the shape of the pool, and sit flush with the pool deck. Our raised spas are typically outside the shape of the pool with a stone spillover, allowing water to cascade into the pool. We highly recommend raising your spa if you’re looking for a water feature, either to compliment the waterfall of your dreams, or as an alternative option that gives you more than any water feature could hope to provide!
5. Slides
